Marketing Your Site with Free WordPress Blogging

Using a WordPress blog to complement your main site alters the way readers follow news in your field, driving traffic from the blog to your site, while also giving you a unique way to connect with new (and also regular) buyers. WordPress blogging does depend on what you sell, but there are few businesses that cannot use social media in some form for cost-effective marketing.

The WordPress Stats

The stats for this are quite intriguing:

  • Over 100,000 new blogs are created every day
  • Blogs naturally rank higher on search engines like Google or Yahoo than traditional sites
  • Blogs are a secondary income for literally thousands of businesses, marketers, and creative types

The 100,000 new blogs statistic is actually a conservative estimate. Some statistics can go over 150,000 in new blogs every day. The advantages of blogging are pretty clear: you need no html skills, you can post in a matter of seconds and all blogs come with custom templates.

How To

WordPress blogging is free to use, but you cannot make it a secondary source of income. If you want to earn money off a WordPress blog, you need to use WordPress.org and host it on a server (which may sound complicated, but isn’t). In comparison, Blogger (owned by Google) can make you money in different ways, with no immediate investment. However, WordPress has better themes and can give you new readers.

The good news is, even with millions of new ones every month, blogs compete well with traditional sites on search engines.

So how do you create the content for your WordPress blog? What do you write about?

Creating content comes down to three options:

  • Hiring a professional blogger
  • Hiring an in house writer
  • Doing it yourself

All three can be good choices. After all, WordPress can make money for you. Just because you can’t post ads on a WordPress.com blog doesn’t mean you can’t make money marketing your services, capturing emails from prospects and even offering deals or coupons.

Hiring a professional blogger need not be expensive, as there are quite a few options here also. If you post a CraigsList ad for example, you might get a few thousand responses. In house writers know your field more than most, so they are a reasonable choice too. Doing it yourself is not always a bad option either. Who knows the message you want to create better than you? It just depends on how much free time you have.

The latest trend (and, as it turns out, the most effective one) in marketing on any blog is to capture emails. This can be done by simply posting a mailing list. You can also use feeds to get regular readers. The bigger your blog gets, the more opportunities you will have.

Now you know why WordPress blogging is so effective and popular. The next step is to start it up. Please share your experiences and ideas in the comments section below.
