In our previous article “How To Integrate jQuery Scroll To Top Control in WordPress“, has described how to integrate a jQuery scroll to top control in wordpress manually. If you have trouble with tuturial we’ve made and want to immediately apply scroll to top control on your wordpress site. Now we’ve made the plugin “Scroll To Top Plugin”.

Scroll to top plugin

Scroll to top is a button that hovers in the bottom right corner of your screen that allow users to smoothly scroll right to the top of page, making a website more user friendly.

Credits : Thanks to Dynamic Drive for this great script, we add plugin function so that more easy to use in wordpress.

Scroll the page down (at least 350 pixels) to see a “Scroll to Top” control appear at the lower right of the window.

Installation

Download the plugin (see “Downloads” above).
Decompress the .zip archive and put the scrolltotop folder into your plugins directory (/wp-content/plugins/).
Activate the plugin in the WordPress Plugins admin page.

Questions (Q) and Answers (A)

Q : How do I change the button image?
A : In your wordpress admin page > Settings > Scroll to Top, fill with url link the form “link to your to top button image”.
Q : How do I set the scroll speed?
A : Still in Scroll to Top settings page, fill the form “Scroll Speed (in milisecond)” with the number that you like (our default is 800 milisecond)
Q : How do I set the number of pixels the user’s scrollbar should be from the top of the page before revealing the control?
A : Still in Scroll to Top settings page, fill the form “The button appears after page scrolled down to line” with the number that you like (our default is 350 pixels).

Report Problem when installing on WP 2.8.4 via admin panel

Downloading install package from http://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/scroll-to-top-plugin.zip.
Unpacking the package.
Incompatible archive PCLZIP_ERR_BAD_FORMAT (-10) : Invalid archive structure

  yes, we’re currently having problem when uploading the plugin to wordpress.org
  this cause the plugin cant be installed via admin panel
  
  you can download the plugin from our site and there wont problem installing via admin panel
  
  btw, i’ve seen your site and you already use the plugin

For some reason, this plugin does not work for my site (www.theorangepaper.com) when using the Internet Explorer browser. I even checked out the cmshype.com website who have installed your plugin (refer their comment above) even for their site I cannot see the ‘Top’ icon in Internet Explorer browser.

Any ideas?

Hi Reza!

THANK YOU very much for your great plugin!
Yes it’s very useful and very well written but a few problems concerning the packaging (RAR) and WP download. Nothing serious but can be confusing. I guess you were already celebrating the plugin when you decided to compact it

There were 2 rar one inside the other and the name of the plugin when decompacting was scroll-to-top-plugin which provoked some path error concerning the image folder. The default image could not be found.
Anyway I renamed the plugin and had to change a few things manually. Now I just downloaded the version on top of this article and it seems you’ve corrected the problem.
So just need to check the version available in the Worpdress Directory as it was until now the older version.

One thing I tuned is the position of the arrow icon.
I found the icon to be in the extreme right bottom and a bit far away from the usual navigation we have with the mouse. So I slightly changed the default position:
from {offsetx:5, offsety:5}
to {offsetx:40, offsety:15}

  yeah, this plugin is very usefull
  before, i had created Joomla version of this plugin and i saw people liked it,
  I thought wordpress users would liked it too
  
  there’s difficulty uploading new version of the plugin to Wordpres directory
  we’re not use to using svn program for uploading
  but we’ll keep trying
